Emperor (2012)

Talk about aggravating. I went in expecting a film about MacArthur’s occupation and instead I got a movie about Matthew Fox’s love affair with a Japanese woman and a superficial look at the investigation over whether or not the Emperor should be tried for war crimes of World War II. It’s atrocious the way it streamlines the political intricacies behind the occupation’s war trial investigation to put more focus on drumming up some superficial drama for Fox’s tragic love story subplot. There is so much wasted potential here it’s maddening.
