Affliction (1997)

Hold on, this won awards? Even Coburn wasn’t  that great, so was the competition that bad in the Oscars that year? Not that I want to rant, I just don’t really see how this could win anything. I mean, Nolte does his usual cranky angry white guy act perfectly fine, but the story didn’t grab me and felt so bland. Guess you just had to be there at the time it came out, and 14 years later it’s too hard to judge it properly on its own proper merits.  There isn’t much else to say, except that Willem Dafoe’s hairstyle just disturbed me. I don’t know why.
