Wall Street (1987)

Still has some punch to it, even after all these years. It’s entirely a cliché in its structure, since it’s been done so many times by now: young, hungry guy for success gets mixed in wrong company that leads to his eventual downfall when he has his moment of moral clarity, blah blah blah. Thankfully the journey itself manages to be both attractive and entertaining and the retro factor actually gives it this certain added charm. Everybody in the cast is enjoyable, and there are couple of nice “oh hey, it’s that guy!” moments when you spot a familiar actor very early in their career. Perhaps now that I’ve finally seen Wall Street I can get a genuine chuckle out of the joke in Hot Shots! Part Deux referencing this flick, now that I properly get the context behind the joke.
