The Battered Bastards of Baseball (2014)

I have never been a big baseball fan. Hockey is just about the only sport I can really get passionate about, but I do have this weird fascination when it comes to baseball as a sport. I barely get the rules, but I really like consuming baseball fiction as well as hearing about anecdotes about the games and players, such as Jackie Robinson, Lou Gehrig, etc. So in that regard, this documentary was very exciting. The Kurt Rusell connection certainly made the film even more compelling to watch. And who doesn’t love a good underdog tale? It’s  easy to get behind and here they do manage to make the short story of the independent Portland Mavericks team be very exciting and magical. It felt a little like seeing a part of this secret history of baseball you never knew existed before.
